Screenplays what I wrote

A while ago I wrote a novel called Not Your Heart Away. When I re-wrote it as a screenplay it won the BBC Writers Room. It's a 90 minute feature film script about a boy who has to juggle the girlfriend he has, the girlfriend he wants and the girlfriend he doesn't know he has.

Thirty years later he has to do it all over again.

Shingle Street is a 90-minute script set in Suffolk's glorious coastal scenery, smack in the middle of the weekender/second home belt. It looks at some of the questions you can't ask until 3am.

Who are you? No, really, who actually are you? What is it you do? Is it anything? How do you get what you want? And how do you know when you've got it?

An amateur sculptor tortured by childhood nightmares has to understand the meaning of Art before his marriage and his house collapses.

Janni Schenck is a special piece for me.

I met him. He was very old. It wasn't his real name.

The more I talk to people about this boy, the more I realise his story wasn't unique. Just airbrushed out of history. The victors write the rules.

Bombed-out and orphaned, a conscripted Swing music-loving Hitler Youth boy is evacuated to the countryside where he realises both the Nazis and the US Army can still get him killed.

Download it here. Warning:  This may make you  extremely sad: Janni Schenck
