DP’s, Aldeburgh
DP’s looks like a bar should – dark, lots of wood, a proper bar and a good mix of always-there locals and newcomers.
And it’s noisy. On Saturday afternoon when I was there it was almost empty and it was still noisy, as someone at the bar had a conversation with a couple in the window seat. Which was about twelve feet away. The noise when there’s a band on, or an open-mic session has to be heard to be believed. It’s called The Wall. And it feels like one. It’s a solid blast of people talking, or to be accurate, talking and falling about drunk.
It toughens you up, performing to that kind of audience.
So I’ll be there this Friday. With all my tough poetry. It’s getting me recognised in the street in Aldeburgh these days. Which is nice.
